Short Documentary / Gray Ridge Egg Farms

Gray Ridge Egg Farms is a family-owned Canadian business dedicated to providing fresh, high-quality eggs from farm to table. With a strong commitment to animal welfare, sustainability, and food safety, Gray Ridge partners with local farmers to serve communities across Ontario and beyond, including projects like this short documentary filmed in Listowel, Ontario.

Gray Ridge Egg Farms contracted me to produce a short documentary capturing a “day in the life” of John Robinson, a dedicated driver with the company for over 46 years, on the occasion of his induction into the PMTC Hall of Fame for Professional Drivers.

Filmed in Listowel, Ontario, the project followed John through his daily routine, focusing on his consistency, character, and long-standing commitment to his work. Created for his award ceremony, the film also serves as a lasting piece that reflects both his personal story and the broader culture within Gray Ridge.

The scope of work involved directing and filming a documentary designed to authentically capture John’s daily routine and interactions. This included interviews with John and his colleagues, offering insight into his impact within the company and the relationships built over time.

The final deliverable was a fully produced documentary, including creative direction, videography, and video editing with sound design, delivered in both 4K and 1080 formats for use at the award ceremony and across future promotional initiatives.

"LOVED every second of this video!!!! You guys have done a phenomenal job at putting this together (AND in such a short time frame!!). Thank you for letting me be a part of this project."

The approach focused on creating an environment where John felt comfortable enough to be himself on camera. Given his quiet and reserved nature, the production was intentionally kept relaxed and conversational, allowing moments to unfold naturally rather than forcing a structured performance.

Pre-production played a key role in understanding his story and how best to capture it. Incorporating testimonials from colleagues added context and depth, helping to shape a film that reflects not only John’s experience, but the impact he has had on those around him.

The documentary was well received at the award ceremony, celebrating John’s achievements while highlighting his long-standing dedication to the company. While initially created for the event, the film continues to serve as a valuable asset for Gray Ridge, supporting internal culture, recruitment, and broader brand communication.

The experience also reinforced the importance of creating a comfortable and collaborative environment on set. Despite initial nerves, John settled into the process, describing the day as feeling more like spending time with a friend than participating in a formal production.

Real experiences create something staged content cannot. When people interact naturally with a space, product, or service, the result is imagery that feels lived in, relatable, and far more meaningful to your audience.
