Gray Ridge Egg Farms is a family-owned Canadian business dedicated to providing fresh, high-quality eggs from farm to table. With a commitment to animal welfare, sustainability, and food safety, Gray Ridge partners with local farmers to deliver nutritious eggs to communities across Ontario and beyond.
Gray Ridge Egg Farms contracted me to produce a "day in the life of" documentary in celebration of John Robinson, a dedicated driver with the company for over 46 years, on the occasion of his induction into the PMTC (Private Motor Truck Council of Canada) Hall of Fame for Professional Drivers. Shot specifically for his award ceremony, the video follows John through his daily routine, showcasing his unwavering commitment and pride in his work and family.

This project involved directing and filming a documentary that authentically captured John’s daily routine and interactions, highlighting his dedication and contributions. Interviews were conducted with John and his colleagues, who shared reflections on his impact within the company. John's words were thoughtfully crafted to resonate with newer drivers and inspire future generations. The final deliverable was a heartfelt documentary delivered in 4K and 1080 intended for the award ceremony and broader promotional use, celebrating both John’s achievements and the supportive culture at Gray Ridge Egg Farms.

To create an immersive and heartfelt experience, I took time in pre-production to understand John's story, personality, and values. Given John’s strong, silent demeanor, I knew a traditional interview style would need to be adjusted. I focused on creating a relaxed, friendly atmosphere to help him feel at ease on camera, ensuring a genuine portrayal. His quiet dedication inspired me to incorporate testimonials from colleagues, adding depth to the story and illustrating the positive impact he's had on those around him. The documentary emphasizes John’s extensive experience and commitment, designed to inspire future generations to pursue the profession.
The documentary was well-received at the award ceremony, effectively celebrating John’s achievements and highlighting his longstanding dedication. While Gray Ridge has primarily used the video for the awards, it stands as a valuable asset that can support future initiatives, emphasizing the company’s commitment to employee well-being and career satisfaction. John expressed heartfelt gratitude for the experience, sharing that he felt unexpectedly calm and comfortable on set, despite his fears keeping him up all night before the shoot. He appreciated the relaxed approach, saying it felt more like spending the day with a friend—a friend with a lot of camera equipment.
