Architectural photography / BEEDIE

Founded in 1954, Beedie is an owner and developer of industrial, commercial, and residential real estate. The company is one of the largest private industrial land owners, developers and property managers in Canada, having completed over 35 million SF of new state-of-the-art construction across Canada and Las Vegas, Nevada.

As part of an ongoing collaboration with Beedie, based in Burnaby, BC, I was contracted to photograph their Morningside project in Scarborough, Ontario. This project involved two shoots—one in the fall to capture Phase 1 of the building’s completion and another in early summer to document Phases 2 and 3. Our goal was to build an extensive image library for Beedie’s sales and marketing assets, offering a wide array of looks by capturing the building across different seasons, times of day, and lighting conditions.

Beedie

The scope of work involved two separate shoot days, scheduled for fall and early summer, to capture the building at various stages of completion. Shoot 1 included daytime, sunset, and twilight photography, while Shoot 2 focused on twilight, sunrise, and daytime imagery. This approach provided Beedie with a versatile collection of images that showcase the building’s character through diverse lighting and seasonal conditions. Additionally, drone photography was incorporated to emphasize the building’s scale and to offer unique perspectives that highlight the seamless coexistence of industrial and residential elements within the surrounding environment.

My approach was to capture the Morningside project in a way that brings out the drama and visual appeal of the building, while maximizing efficiency. By strategically shooting at sunrise, sunset, and twilight, I was able to create a diverse collection of images that showcases the building in its most dramatic lighting. This timing allowed me to capture the structure’s architectural quality with variety and depth, providing Beedie with a visually engaging set of assets within an efficient timeframe. The addition of drone shots further emphasized scale and provided unique angles that enhance the building’s presence within its surroundings.

The content produced has been effectively utilized across Beedie’s marketing channels, including social media, website enhancements, public relations, and real estate investment initiatives. The client expressed high satisfaction with the quality and versatility of the images, licensing several additional photos to expand their marketing library. This project also marks nearly five years of successful collaboration with Beedie, strengthening our ongoing partnership and their brand presence in the GTA.
